The Complete Data Distribution Solution.
Now with FTP Installation Capability and Electronic Transaction
Processing
Create custom installers with the Macintosh OS8 Platinum Style
User Interface.
Developers can give their installers the look and feel of the
new OS quickly and easily.
New Smart Updaters.
Now InstallerMaker has intelligent updaters capable of updating
a FAT application and 68K or PPC versions with a single updater.
New Conditions.
Customize software installers with new conditions for OS8 and
"Install When." The Install When condition is a run-time evaluated
condition that allows an installer to install items or execute
tasks based on the success or failure of the last task executed
or last Find used as a Destination. This condition is evaluated
when the item is set to be installed or executed. Installers assume
the item will be installed until that time.
Automatically Binhex and/or MacBinary encode installers at build
time.
Developers need only check the appropriate box in the Build dialog.
The settings are saved between builds. The encoded file will be
saved in the same folder as the installer when "save all" is selected,
otherwise the builder will be prompted to choose where to save
each encoded file.
More Options menu scriptability for ease of use.
Iincluding Startup Text, Software License Text and the Trialware
setting for install files.
New 'ISiz' extension
Allows developers to change the space required to install settings
after a user clicks the "Install" button, but prior to installing
files or executing any tasks.
FTP Install Task
Allows users to build installers capable of retrieving files from
the Internet. FTP (File Transfer Protocol) Install tasks allow
developers to specify an FTP site on the Internet with a path
leading to a file to retrieve and install.
StuffIt Engine Support for Internet Installers
StuffIt Engine support is included in InstallerMaker Internet
installers, enabling them to unstuff StuffIt (.sit) files, expand
.zip files, decode MacBinary (.bin) files and decode BinHex (.hqx)
files.
New Features made easier to use
Users can simply hold down the Option key while dragging files
into an archive to automatically replace existing files, allowing
them to bypass the confirmation prompt asking whether to add new
files or to replace existing files.
Multiple License Registration
Many of Aladdin's licensees hold licenses for multiple products.
Aladdin has made it easier to use these multiple registration
numbers.
Enhanced user interface.
Display Alert Task
Allows you to show alert messages to users at any time during
installation.
Launch Task
Allows you to create tasks to launch applications, open other
files, or launch additional installers that are necessary to the
installation of your software, without having to include them
in the installer archive.
Preserve Success/Fail Status Flag
Let users know when and if their installation succeeded. Now you
can preserve the flag that indicates whether the last Task and/or
Find failed when executing tasks.
Execute When condition.
Allows Tasks to be set to execute under three conditions: Always,
If last Task/Find succeeded, or If last Task/Find failed.
Edit Installer Finder Info.
Allows you to set the Shared and File Locked flags for the installer,
and /or the minimum and preferred memory allocation. This feature
makes it easier to retain the custom settings for the installer.
Added support for calling IMid extensions before and after Alias
and Rename tasks.
Electronic Commerce
- Create trialware (a time-limited demo) of your software with NO
CODING required. Your software will run for a developer set number
of days or launches, it can even run forever as shareware.
- Customers can purchase your software over the internet, modem,
phone, fax or postal mail.
- Users are prompted to buy every time your software is launched.
New Update architecture
The built-in updater has been completely rewritten. It is an order
of magnitude faster in creating "diff" files and they are as much
as 60% smaller. Note: "diff" files created under InstallerMaker
3.x are compatible with the 4.x.
Display Pictures (Banners) & Play Sounds During Installation
Show one picture or a series of pictures during the installation
process. A resource file to your installer to play one or more
sounds during the install.
Create Disk Images with ShrinkWrap
Use ShrinkWrap to create disk images while building an installer.
This automates the build process to ensure consistency and reliability.
Requires ShrinkWrap 2.1 or higher.
Internet Configuration Support
New documentation and the Internet PrefSaver have been added to
assist in configuring a Mac OS computer for internet access. PrefSaver
helps ensure user account name and password information is propagated
across common internet software packages such as Netscape Navigator,
Eudora Lite, Internet Config, Microsoft Internet Explorer and
many others through Internet Config. Documentation is included
that explains how to configure TCP/IP (Open Transport) or MacTCP.
Multi Language Software License Dialog
InstallerMaker supports a separate software license dialog during
installation. Add the text for a software license agreement in
multiple languages which will be displayed before installation.
End users must accept the terms of the license agreement before
the installation will proceed. We currently support the eight
standard languages used by Apple in their software license agreements:
English, French, Dutch, Spanish, Swedish, Italian, Japanese, Netherlands.
Installation Log
Optionally save a log of all activity performed on the user's
system during installation.
Optional Restart
When items are installed in the system folder with a restart action,
users now have the option to restart or quit instead of always
being forced to restart.
Improved Find
The Find feature has been received a big speed boost. When Find
is used as the Destination for a file that is being installed,
and Find is looking for a folder, the interface of the Find dialog
has been improved.
Improved User Interface in the Archive Window
Each item for destination, installation condition, or action now
support pop-up menus in the archive window. Double-clicking on
items to be installed now brings up their info window rather than
trying to unstuff them. Double-clicking on Task items opens the
task dialog.
Allow debugging of External Code Resources
Developers can set a preference that will not compress external
code resources added to an installer. This allows them to be debugged
using a standard debugger environment such as the Metrowerks debugger.
