Q: Why doesn't the Private File(tm) for Windows "Encrypt and Mail"
feature work on my computer?
A: If Windows Messaging (MAPI) support is not installed, you will
need to add the 'Windows Messaging' component to take advantage
of the 'Encrypt and Mail' feature. To do this under Windows 95:
1. Choose 'Control Panel' from the Settings pop-up menu under
the Start menu.
2. Double-click 'Add/Remove Programs'.
3. Click the 'Windows Setup' tab.
4. Check the 'Microsoft Exchange' or 'Windows Messaging' checkbox.
If you would like to choose between 'Internet Mail' and 'Microsoft
Mail' as your installed mail program, click the 'Details' button
and check the appropriate checkboxes in the selection dialog that
appears, then click the 'OK' button.
5. Click the 'Apply' Button. Windows Messaging should be enabled
and you should be able to use the "Encrypt and Mail" feature.
6. Once MAPI is installed, you may need to enable your mail program
to use MAPI messaging as well. For example, if you wish to use
Eudora(tm) as the default MAPI mailer:
- Open Eudora and choose 'Options' from the Tools menu.
- Select the 'MAPI' category and set 'Use Eudora MAPI server:' to
'Always'.
- Click the 'OK' button.
The Private File "Encrypt and Mail" feature should now work.
