Q: I just installed StuffIt Deluxe(tm), DropStuff(tm), or StuffIt Expander(tm) and when I drag and drop a file onto DropStuff or StuffIt Expander, it doesn't highlight. I can launch DropStuff and choose 'Stuff' from the File menu or I can launch StuffIt Expander and choose 'Expand' from the File menu successfully. Why can't I drag a file onto DropStuff or StuffIt Expander? A: This problem is usually casued by a out-of-date desktop database file on your hard disk. You should rebuild the desktop on your computer to solve the problem by holding the [Command]+[Option] keys down as the computer starts up. Continue holding them down until a dialog box displays the message "Are you sure you want to rebuild the desktop file on the disk "xxxxx"?" Click the 'OK' button to allow the machine to rebuild the desktop. After it is complete, try dropping a file onto DropStuff again as it should now work. Note- Apple recommends that you perform this action after every 30 hours or so of computer use. It is a regular maintenance procedure. If you use StuffIt SpaceSaver(tm), be sure it is enabled prior to rebuilding your desktop.
