Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Stuffit Deluxe(tm) launches when I try to open a Stuffit archive instead of letting me view the archive in the Finder, (using the Stuffit Browser(tm)). I have Norton Utilities(tm) 3.5 with CrashGuard(tm). How can I get my Stuffit Browser to work again?

A: The most effective workaround, so far, is to make sure File Sharing and Program Linking are turned off and restart your machine.

To do this:

1. Open your Sharing Setup control panel by opening your System Folder, then your Control Panels folder, and then your Sharing Setup control panel.
2. Turn File Sharing off by clicking the 'Stop' button next to it. Turn Program Linking off by clicking the 'Stop' button next to it. If either button says 'Start' that feature is already off.
3. Restart your machine and the Stuffit Browser should start working again. If you still have difficulties, please contact us through one of the addresses listed below and include any further details.
4. Once the machine is running you can turn File Sharing and Program Linking back on. In order to use the Stuffit Browser the next time you use your machine, remember to turn File Sharing and Program Linking back off before you shut down or restart.

So far this problem has been reported only on machines using CrashGuard, RAM Doubler 2.0.1(tm), and the Stuffit Browser (enabled in the True Finder Integration(tm) control panel).

We recommend you check for the latest information on this problem by visiting the MacFixIt Web site at:

http://www.macfixit.com

Once on that page, there are several buttons directly under the MacFixIt logo at the top of the page; click the 'Search' button. Once the search page comes up, type the word "CrashGuard" in the 'Text to Search For:' field, and click the 'Search' button. Scroll through the results summaries that come up, looking for references to: Stuffit, TFI(tm), True Finder Integration, Browser, or problem; then click the link to the appropriate and most recent summaries.
