Q: I just installed Aladdin Desktop Tools(tm) and when I restart I (a) crash with a Type 11 error; (b) cannot see my hard drive or any files on my computer; or (c) get a '?' where the happy face usually is. What do I do? A: Use the directions below to isolate and resolve the problem. 1. Restart your computer without extensions by holding the [Shift]
key down at startup. This should allow your computer to start
up with out crashing. In System 7.5.1 and 7.5.2 the General Controls control panel is problematic; this causes a conflict with the StuffIt SpaceSaver(tm), Magic Menu(tm), and True Finder Integration(tm) control panels. One way to resolve this is to update your System to 7.5.3 or later. The issue has been addressed by Apple in these later System versions. Alternatively, you can disable either the General Controls control panel or the Aladdin control panels as a workaround. If you are unable to update your System version and you want to retain the functionality of all associated control panels, there is hope. The problem arises when the General Controls control panel loads before Aladdin's control panels. Control panels load in alphabetical order, thus the General Controls control panel typically loads before any of Aladdin's control panels. To work around this, you need to rename the General Controls control panel to force it to load after the Aladdin control panels. To make the General Controls control panel load after the Aladdin control panels, you need to modify the name so that it comes last alphabetically. 1. Open the Control Panels folder in the System Folder. Your computer should start up just fine.
