Aladdin Systems And Act2 Announce Private File, The Easiest Cross-Platform Encryption Software For The Japanese Market

Tokyo PC EXPO, Japan 24/9 -27/9, Booth # 5121, Makuhari Messe

Tokyo, Japan- October 6, 1997 -- Aladdin Systems, Inc., developer of the worldwide compression and installation standards, StuffIt(R) and InstallerMaker(tm), today announced Private File(tm) for the Japanese market. It is the easiest way to protect a user's sensitive information for secure transmission over the Internet (via e-mail, FTP sites, Web sites, etc.). Private File ships on a hybrid CD with both Windows 95/NT and Macintosh versions. Private File uses powerful 128-bit encryption to encrypt files and folders and is as easy to use as Drag and Drop! Private File is also available in 40-bit encryption for international distribution.

"With the tremendous growth of the Internet, more and more people are sending their information electronically. There are several options today to secure that information, but none are as easy to use as Private File-- plus it's Windows and Macintosh compatible," said Peter Thomas, Private File Product Manager.

Private File consists of two applications: PF Encrypt(tm) and PF Decrypt(tm). To encrypt, drop files and folders onto the PF Encrypt application and enter a password. The items will be encrypted as a compressed single document, ready for transmission. The recipient needs only to drop the encrypted document onto PF Decrypt and enter the password at the prompt to access the file(s). The next version of Aladdin's StuffIt Expander freeware for Windows and Macintosh will also include PF Decrypt capabilities.

Private File integrates with e-mail programs to simplify transmission over the Internet. After selecting the files and folders to be sent, the user can choose "Encrypt and Mail..." from the menu to automatically attach encrypted files to e-mail messages. The file is then encrypted and placed into a mail message. To send, simply enter an address.

Private File incorporates the award-winning StuffIt technology for its compression, allowing users to save time when sending files over the Internet. Text and spreadsheet attachments are often reduced 80% or more.

"The need for a cross-platform encryption product this easy to use is just what the Japanese market has been demanding," said Mikiya Kato, Founder and President of act2 Inc.
