Qualcomm Introduces Eudora Productivity Toolkit With Best-Of-Class Solutions For Email's Four Biggest Challenges: Security, Viruses, Compression And Attachment Viewing

Eudora Division Clears Email's Key Hurdles and Increases Users' Productivity with Industry-Leading Solutions from Pretty Good Privacy, McAfee, Aladdin and Verity

SAN DIEGO -- July 23, 1997-- QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), a world leader in wireless communications and advanced electronic messaging solutions for the Internet, today introduced the Eudora Productivity Toolkit( software, a comprehensive and integrated package of best-of-class solutions for email's four key challenges: security, virus protection, file compression and attachment viewing.

Reflecting the needs of the millions of email users across the globe, the Eudora Productivity Toolkit package solves emails' most universal hurdles: Security - Email users want to know their messages are secure and confidential. PGP(r) for Personal Privacy, Version 5.0 (DSS/Diffie Hellman) allows you to easily encrypt, decrypt and digitally sign messages and attachments, including text, spreadsheets, word processing documents, voice and video files. It is also ideal for encrypting and digitally signing documents or files on a desktop to protect them from prying eyes.

Viruses - Receiving virus-infected attachments can irreparably damage valuable documents and computer systems. McAfee VirusScan(r) 3.0 - OEM Internet Version continuously monitors Eudora email attachments and all other systems files, alerts users when viruses are found and automatically removes viruses from infected files.

Attachment viewing - You can't open attachments if you don't have the software that created them. Verity KeyView(tm) 5.1 Plug-in for Eudora automatically allows users to view and print attachments created with the most popular software applications. This custom Eudora version of KeyView provides Eudora Pro users with cross-platform support for more than 25 file formats -- giving the user a high-fidelity view of word processing, spreadsheets, graphics and HTML documents. Full-featured versions of KeyView and KeyView Pro are available from Verity at special upgrade pricing. (This feature is available on the Windows platform only).

Compression, Downloading and transmitting large files takes up too much valuable time. Aladdin Systems StuffIt(tm) 4.0 Plug-in for Eudora compresses attachment files for shorter transmission time and the StuffIt Expander Plug-in for Eudora allows you to decompress a wide range of the compressed archive files that you receive. Since the StuffIt Expander also supports most compressed archive file formats, users can interchange files among Macintosh, PC and UNIX systems.

"Reflecting QUALCOMM's continuing commitment to provide our millions of customers with market leading, robust and easy-to-use tools for electronic communications, we have partnered with best-of-class solutions to email's key hurdles," said Jeff Jacobs, vice president and general manager of QUALCOMM's Eudora division. Placing our customers' needs and preferences above all else has made the Eudora family of software the world leader in Internet email. Partnering with other industry leaders like McAfee, Verity, Aladdin and Pretty Good Privacy ensures that we maintain our market and technology leadership.

Commenting on the market need for the Eudora Productivity Toolkit package, Mark Levitt, research manager for Electronic Messaging at International Data Corporation, stated “Users have been searching for products that address their concerns regarding e-mail security and interoperability. This package provides the end-to-end encryption, virus protection, viewers, and compression that are missing from most e-mail products on the market today."

The Eudora Productivity Toolkit package is included, at no additional cost, with the latest version of Eudora Pro, v3.0.3(tm) for Windows and v 3.1.1 for Macintosh. The CD-ROM contains an installation interface for Eudora Pro software and all components of the Eudora Productivity Toolkit package to make installation simple. The new CD-ROM has a suggested retail price of $89. A $20 Upgrade Rebate Coupon, which is found inside retail boxes of the latest Eudora Pro software, is available for qualifying owners of previous versions of Eudora Pro software. The Eudora Productivity Toolkit package is available only in the United States and Canada. The latest version of Eudora Pro also includes the automatic installation of the QUALCOMM PureVoice(tm) Plug-in for Eudora, which allows users to exchange voice messages using email.
